As things at every corner of the day seem to be flaring up, it’s tough to focus on just one issue. I thought I’d crawl my way back into the world with a few thoughts and OPINIONS about various recent topics. I want to preface this by saying that agreeing or disagreeing with different directions varying topics are taking, in no way, means that I am condoning or cementing myself on the extreme of either viewpoint. It seems that can be the only way our opinions and concerns are viewed. We tout ourselves as a country of tolerance and understanding. But at times, it seems that, unless you are of the majority or politically correct stance, you are systematically pigeon-holed as a zealot. And to me, therein lies a good part of the problem…..

North Korea…..In March, the Obama Administration promised food/aid to North Korea in exchange for a moratorium on long range missiles. Now, supposedly, that is threatened due to the fact that North Korea has said it will go ahead with some missile tests. To me, the operative word is ‘moratorium’. A moratorium is simply a delay or suspension. Not a promise NOT to conduct the tests. North Korea has continued to make a fool of the U.S. With this just being the latest, the exchange should have been a firm, non-negotiable WILL NOT conduct the tests. All they’ve done is allowed us, American citizens, to provide aid to a country that demonizes and threatens us while refusing to treat their citizens with basic human rights. Along with the overzealous Iranians, they will never fear anything. Russia and China are both on the U.N. Security Council and have refused to allow any type of firm action or sanctions to be imposed. Why? They’re communists!! Seriously? It’s time for the United States to man-up. Stop all aid. I mean until after the election. I hear there will be more flexibility. Aye, Comrade?

Supreme Court…..The Supreme Court is currently in session. With the Affordable Healthcare Act being argued, an item from last week seems to have slipped to the back burner. The “life without parole for minors” debate has been a hot issue since it started being used. But, in my view, this shows our inability to put the real issue on the surface. Being a child is the issue that should be made firm. It’s weird to me that a 14 year child can be put to such an ultimate sentence. With the prosecution, I’m sure, arguing that the child planned, studied, waited, etc. and carried out an ‘adult crime’. Then, that same prosecutor will try to convince the same jury that a child of the same age doesn’t have the capacity to choose to have intimate relations. And that decision can ruin an adult’s life complete. In no way am I saying adults should have a free pass when it comes to children. Not even close. My argument is to define a child as a child. Our society has chosen to pick and choose what crimes a child can and can’t commit. When a child is a child and when they’re not. Either you know right from wrong or you don’t. I’m not saying that a murderous child shouldn’t be punished. But are they children or not? What should change are the guidelines to allow their release from incarceration at a certain age. Upon rehabilitation, of course. How has their record been while incarcerated? And when they are let out and start veering back towards their adolescent ways, allow the prosecution to admit their juvenile record into an adult trial. That’s a fair tradeoff. You allow the child to be accountable for their actions as well as show authorities that it was just an immature mistake. But, the definition should be “What is a child?”
The GOP Nomination…..As the GOP nomination process begins to look like the Eveready Bunny (while the going on forever would fit, I am more inclined to use the annoying banging cymbals in the analogy), the talk will for sure turn to Romney (presumably) and his thoughts for a running mate. While I am unsure who I’d like to see in the end, here are some things that I feel he will consider. I’ve said this to my circle from the start about Mitt Romney: His biggest hurdle will be his Mormonism. I didn’t say that it should or that I believe one way or the other about The Mormons. Whether the politically correct want to admit it, this is still a Christian nation. If you know anything about the Mormon faith, you know where and how they came to get their Book of Mormon. To Southern Baptists and Northern Catholics (to name a few), that may be a hard sell. So this is my take. When John F. Kennedy was running for President, his Catholicism was very much in the forefront. It was questioned and scrutinized. This is in no way comparing the two men’s ideals, style or visions. I’m just saying that aside from unseating an incumbent (albeit, somewhat unpopular) President, Romney’s religion could be a deciding factor down the line. He has also had issues winning in the south, just as Kennedy. Last week Romney and Newt Gingrich had a closed door meeting. I’m not saying Gingrich is the answer. What I will say is that Gingrich presided over a time when America was growing favorably. There was bipartisanship in Congress. He got and gets things done. He’s smart. He’s seasoned. He knows compromise. I believe he loves America and what’s best for her…….and he’s Southern. JFK and LBJ were not drinking buddies, political allies or cut from the same cloth. But Lyndon Baines Johnson was Southern. I do think that LBJ was a political moved based on the want the win. Again, I don’t think Newt will be asked to be on the ticket. If I were Romney, I’d get him in my corner as quick as I could. Even in a Karl Rove type capacity. He’s made mistakes and rebounded from them. I couldn’t think of a better strategist when it comes to defeating the Democrats than Newt Gingrich.
On the Democrat side…..I have really shied away from railing too much about Obama. I didn’t want to come across as what I could be perceived as being. But man…..WOW. What a character. That guy reminds me of a comedian on tour. He has gathered some catch phrases and doesn’t really back anything up with fact. He only makes a joke and thinks the American public will take it as a sign that he’s the answer. He’s not. I had a guy I worked with tell another former coworker who was really demeaning and abasing me something that really entered the forefront of my mind when taking a good look at how Obama is campaigning. The guy said, “You don’t have to blow my candle out to make yours seem brighter”. That’s all Obama has done. Not that it isn’t done by both sides; I will cough that up from the start. But he ran on change and progress. He hasn’t campaigned on his record at all. He name calls. He mocks. He hasn’t owned up to his share of the country’s failures. He’s blamed the REPUBLICAN side of Congress. Not even the whole Congress. Let’s not forget that the House is the one branch that is most directly linked to the population. He regurgitates the same punch lines over and over and over……’silver bullet’, ‘3 step plan drill, drill and still more drilling’,’ flat Earth society’…Really? Impressive. I feel like reciting ‘Sticks and Stones’. I believe he thinks he’s a Jedi Master…and Yoda, at that. He puts his hands out and says the same thing over and you WILL realize these aren’t the droids you’re looking for. In closing, my favorite mind trick moment was back during the State of the Union address. And I can’t believe no one has called this out. He spoke about the American PROMISE as opposed to the American Dream. Not buying it. He wants the nanny state to believe in the hamster wheel. “You keep little running buddy, work up that sweat. It doesn’t look like it now but I promise you’re making great strides…..wink, wink”.
My last two topics may be touching to most and seen as insensitive or racially charged to others. I assure you, they are not. At some point we have to admit we are in a time of change, both good and bad, and static, both good and bad. Unless we are allowed to say what we feel without being branded or demonized, this wonderful country of ours will go the way of Greece and the like. Objectivity is the word of the day….

Florida……The tragedy in Florida with the killing of Trayvon Martin is horrible and mind consuming. I can’t begin to describe what I think happened with that whole mess…so I won’t. What I will say is that there are factors fueling this beyond comprehension. First, the media has allowed and seemingly encouraged this to take on a racially motivated life of its own. I was watching CNN and the trailer on the bottom read: “Republicans, whites more tired of Trayvon Martin case”. Are you kidding me? They might as well send me sheets and a pair of scissors. Spike Lee, Al Sharpton are leading the pack. Lee has steadfastly proven his racism throughout the years and hidden behind the mask of Hollywood and skin color. While he calls the black race to the carpet about stereotypes and being proud, he lashes out hypocritically when a member of another race has the exact same to say. Sharpton? Just tune in and watch him for a moment. The fact is we do not know all the facts of this case. We don’t. And we shouldn’t. The media has been allowed to spin this into either direction and the only result has been increasingly stronger tensions. But the one that takes the cake is our own Commander-in-Chief. How shameful for him to get himself involved. For him to say that Martin could have looked like a son he’d had had, is, plainly put, wrong. Mr. Obama has allowed his ego to supersede his patriotism. The US President doesn’t allow himself to become involved in something as dividing as that. Any respect I did have has vanished. I pity him to relegating the Office to the level of morning talk show. The only thing he’s missing is a returned check from a prostitute.
Afghanistan……I don’t want to say too terribly much about the incident in Afghanistan involving Sgt. Bales. The reason being is that it’s like trying to teach algebra to 6 year olds while speaking in Latin. You just can’t. This is what I want to say…..If they go ahead and try this patriot in civilian court, it will complete the disarray to which this administration has allowed our military to become. The people making the decision on placing him in civilian court are not qualified. Until you have experienced the military, you cannot pass judgment on those that have. There’s a reason that there is a Uniformed Code of Military Justice. Any time a crime or infraction occurs in the confines of the US Military it has mitigating circumstances. Period. Not kind of. Not maybe. Not here and there. Not sometimes. Every single time. Done. Case closed. I am not condoning nor supporting what this soldier did. I am only stating that he has given up the freedoms we take for granted to defend them. That deserves a look from a likeminded point of view. His service for our country warrants that. My apologies if you see it different. I was shown this statement one time and was told it was taken from the carton of soldier’s C-Rat in Vietnam (not sure how true that is but the words are powerful….). It reads, “For those that fight for it, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know”.

Here’s to ‘Too Union’ at SDP…..a bitch at 17 huh??? Get rid of that bandana, yet? Everyone has a price, Minnie Pearl.

Hope all have a great Easter weekend. I’ll be in touch. Hope to hear your thoughts and comments. I’m all ears.

Until next time…..

Quick Note: Again, my apologies for the delay since last post. I wish I could sit here and write that I had a good, viable reason. But, in the end, it was simply part laziness, my inability to get motivated and a little of some things rearing its head. I resolve to do better. blh

Alright…So this Occupy Wall Street has been going on for a month and seemingly has no end in sight. My question is that do they really know why they’re protesting? I know the whole Wall Street greed catch phrase but the details and gist of their argument. They chanted about the bailouts to the ‘too big to fail’. Ummm…it was the government that approved the bailouts. With this administration and the last contributing. What is they think is the solution? They just yell and scream ‘Help the Needy Not the Greedy’ or whatever the credo of the day happens to be. I’ve not heard or seen anything, in the media NOR their website (http://occupywallst.org/), that resembles a remedy to their plight, aside from the concrete platform of the Left. While I agree there are things that, as citizens and humans, we need and deserve, a good part of they want, they want GIVEN to them. I have issue( I’m sorry.. issues, plural) with anyone being given anything without merit.
First of all, they’re going about it the wrong way. Being that I work in a union plant (well quasi working?), I have seen a similar type of situation.” We want them (whoever ‘Them’ are) to give us this and give us that! What? We have a part in this? You dare ask us to do our “fair share”? The nerve!” I could never understand this thinking. In my opinion, everything we do is a compromise or contract, if you will, with provisions and promises on both sides to ensure mutual success. From what I’ve seen, there are a good number of the protesters that are educated and under the age of 34 (according to the OWS website study performed by a sociologist at CUNY, Héctor R. Cordero-Guzmán Ph.D). Mind you the sample was drawn from only the visitors from the site. So, I would think a bit of salt would be needed to read and relate to the study.
The website cites the need for healthcare and jobs, protection from foreclosures and, being that almost 30% have a bachelor’s or advanced degree, the forgiveness of student loans. In all fairness, healthcare should be available and needs to be. But getting the government involved, to me, is not the answer. As far as the others I mentioned, I think that’s the most absurd thing about this whole whine session.
When it comes to the foreclosures, I know there are shady people and companies. Surely, you know what you can and can’t afford. You have an obligation to read everything you sign. And if you don’t, find someone outside the mortgage company, such as an independent lawyer of your choosing, to explain to you in intricate detail. Don’t you think the $400 you spend right now is cheaper than losing your house down the road? I would even support the mortgage company being financially responsible or the buyer having the option of rolling into the closings costs or amount borrowed. I’ve said it before and I’ll repeat myself. It all starts with accountability. Life has to. There is no doubt in my mind that there are hardworking people that have lost their jobs and are subsequently on the verge of losing their house. But, there are those that haven’t and are simply choosing to walk away from their responsibility. So, there are bad apples on the side of the buyer and there are bad apples on the side of the lender. In a socialist environment, we are all the same, right? Afforded the same leeway? So, the answer is that there may not be a solid answer or equally satisfying solution. But, you have to know that lending is a business, not a right. The credit needed has to be earned. The lenders will simply walk away from lending. Take their business elsewhere. Just like our jobs. I wouldn’t be in the business to lose money.
I’ve already written a piece on my take on why America’s jobs are going vacating the premises. Please note I didn’t say ‘our’ jobs. Because they aren’t ‘our’ jobs. They have been here for a century or so because we used to be the pinnacle of what dedicated hard work was. The model to which the rest of the world looked to for examples. We took pride in earning an honest day’s wage for an honest day’s work. There was a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment as you walked out the gate and home to our families. Again, with the help of a few bad seeds, we have dumbed ourselves right out of the right to ‘maintain our jobs.’ When you get a job, it is 100% a mutual agreement that both parties have to follow in order for that relationship to flourish and succeed. You know whether you would hire yourself when you get to work each day. It may not be right but the company has every right to work in the direction of profit with complete safety and environment consciousness. This government that these protesters are begging for relief from the Wall Street pigs is as much of the problem as the pigs AND workers are. The government is consistently making it harder and harder for companies to do business, profitably, in our country. This is a shared problem. You can pull the wool over your eyes and pretend not to notice but it’s a big problem in a big way. We all have to do our part. Jobs are not a birthright.
Like mentioned earlier, there is a greater than average education level among the protesters. They have a right to be upset about their employment and personal situation. I would as well. My one question to them would be, “Is it that you can’t find a job? Is it that you can’t find a job you like? Or is it that you can’t find a job you like with the field your degree is in?” I truly believe herein lies the crux of their frustration. If I had spent a good amount of money and dedicated and persevered to earn my degree, you bet your life I’d feel obligated to myself to use what I’ve learned and accomplished. But, how long are they going to sit there and wait for the ‘job fairy’ to come along and give them a job simply because they’re degreed? At some point, there has to be acknowledgement that there is need to do something now. It may not be the most desired or high paying career they had visions of. But it’s a start. If you’re not part of solution, you’re part of the problem. Like a boss told me numerous times: Short term pain for long term gain. It appeared at first that the pain would end with college. Unfortunately, it didn’t. A college diploma is not, and should never be, a guarantee for anything. Period. An education simply shows the character to finish what was set out to accomplish and to broaden your employment possibilities. That’s it. If they’ve convinced themselves otherwise, I feel they’re only cheating themselves. I do not have a college degree. I knew that future opportunities would be limited when I made the decision to walk away and take my current job. It didn’t require a college degree. That didn’t keep me from putting all my effort and intestinal fortitude towards being a success because of that. I made sure I would end where I wanted in spite of the fact that I didn’t have a degree. Not because I didn’t.
There have been two things said to me in my life that have always stuck with me. And I have drawn on them at various times. Before I was hired at my current job, my second job was delivering newspapers. It wasn’t glamorous but it served its purpose. It was a means to an end. I had driven up to the newspaper rack and was blocking a parking spot. This gentleman got out of his car and proceeded to humiliate me for being a ‘menial, delivery boy’. He told me how much of a loser I was that I had resorted to delivering papers to make a living and so on. I remember feeling sorry for myself that I had reached that point. But that only lasted a day or two. I woke up and told myself that I was a winner. A hard working person and that things would get better. They did.
The second thing said to me is really more of the main idea of a conversation. The topic was my salary without a degree in relation to the salary of a degreed ‘professional’. I make a decent and better than livable wage. I felt, and still feel, I completely deserve the money I make. The argument from their side was that I didn’t have a right to make the money I made. Reason? 100% that I didn’t have a college degree. They felt being that I didn’t finish college that I should be limited to certain pay guidelines. The educated population was the ones deserving of good money. In the end, I just flatly don’t deserve it. I do.
When there are people with two and three jobs out there, there is no excuse to allow one to be idle because it’s not a job they’ll be proud of at a reunion. Time is being carelessly misused if this is the reason any of them are there. Do yourself a solid: Make it happen.
That rolls into the student loan thing. I won’t say too much on this. They knew going in that it was a debt not a grant. They knew they would have a certain grace period. Paying it back was a promise made. There’s no way that the government should pay anyone’s debt. Especially being that attending college is a choice. Not a requirement.
The expectation that the government owes us anything is inane. The government doesn’t produce anything but debt. By wanting forgiveness for a debt chosen to partake, you’re asking the government to shift that debt to someone else. Someone will still have to answer to the money borrowed. It may not be directly. It will show up in the ‘dying middle class’ taxes. So that arrogance and sense of entitlement only shows that the uneducated and simple people will be burdened by someone who wouldn’t hire them, give them the time of day or think they deserve a better than livable wage.
The protests are reaching a point where there will be a less than desirable effect. They have been supported by unions, Democrats, fellow worldwide protesters and even got a shout out from the ever loving Nazis and human rights champion Communists. It’s a farce and the demonstrations have played out beautifully for those with a Left Wing agenda. It’s almost like Christmas in October. The financial and logistical support has come from teachers’ unions, steel workers union, the AFL-CIO, other liberal outfits and even our President Obama. Obama has crafted his words carefully. Has given the right speeches and pointed the finger at the Right. Even going so far as demanding them to answer for each they didn’t like in the job bill. Then calling them dim in the fact that he’s broken it down so they could better understand. And the downright lunacy and unfounded balderdash that Vice President Biden screamed about no jobs bill leading to crime, specifically murder and rape, is ignorant, at best. I feel both are fueling the situation. For political gain. Nothing more. Obama is hoping to be re-elected and for the Democrats to retake the House and the super majority in the Senate. That way he can do what he did the first two years of his presidency. Push his agenda through with a rubber stamp from Congress. That was progress. That is progressionism forcing policies down the throat. That is not what our country is about. In addition, getting aligned with unions is a deal with the devil. Want to talk about big business screwing the little guy? Take a gander at the United Steelworkers Union yearly statement. I have. Here’s just one item on that list. They spent over $15,000 on football season tickets in two NFL towns. Now, I know what I’ve paid in union dues in the past. It takes approximately the dues of 30 people at my jobsite to cover that. And this is to a venue that I couldn’t just pick up, monetarily, and go to. I can tell you that. Unions optimize this entitlement way of thinking. They want the most they can get for the least amount of exertion. And the protesters are acting accordingly.
Instead of using lawful avenues, they have resorted to union thuggery tactics to try and push their point across. They’ve used aggression instead of diplomacy to make their argument. It can’t be that way. Yet, their only argument is that they deserve these things yet don’t want to do ‘their fair share’. It’s their right to be given what they feel they should. They have gone about the whole process the wrong way. They’re breaking the law by demonstrating without a permit, not allowing officials through because they didn’t have proper authorization for certain activities, disrupted office and building entrances, taken up all the sidewalks and roads in a particular area. All against the NYC code on legal protests. Take it from someone who’s learned it the hard way recently, anything you do that’s against the rules will only negate the message you’re trying to send. It may not make sense or be right but that will be the way it is. Civil disobedience meets resistance before it veers toward resolution.
I am not saying that the protesters don’t want what’s best for the nation. And I do empathize with them. In that, I can only imagine the frustration the feeling that they have no control over their future. And the overwhelming fear they have with a mounting debt or uncertainty of their financial plight. They do have control. They can remedy their situation. But they have to be an active part. We are not a socialist based country. We never should. We are guaranteed in the Constitution these three things: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. The want to earn success and happiness should be paramount. They can do it. It’s been done.
This ‘grass roots’ movement is swerving toward chaos. It can only get worse. To me, they seem like there are a good number of whiners who feel sorry for themselves and have chosen to demand their government to make changes. Changes that will freely allow them to acquire things that are normally earned. Nothing in this world is free. Someone will have to pay when the government doles out entitlements to capable people. That’s not right. It just isn’t and it just can’t be.
In closing I’d like to say this, be careful what you ask for. The government regulating commerce and demanding social justice and redistribution will have more dire consequences than most realize. It was the Bolsheviks that promised so much to the masses in return for their loyalty. And we see how that whole thing ended up.

Until next time and sooner than this time…..

Now that the circus in southern Florida is subsiding in anticipation of the imminent book and movie deals, the case of Humberto Leal is making the waves now. Mr. Leal is set to die by lethal injection here in Texas tonight for the 1995 torture and murder of a 16 year old San Antonio girl. Brutal. Senseless. Punishment: Deserving.
What’s causing the additional hubbub about this execution is that the murderer is a Mexican national. And that the death warrant is set to be handed down, our beloved government has decided that it needs to sticks its nose into Texas’ affairs. While it, no doubt, is none of their business, I get the reasoning. So, you have Obama, Secretaries Clinton and Holder AND Mexico weighing in on the issue. They cite a U.N. treaty and dire consequences for American citizens who may get arrested overseas. This inmate has used the legal system to the Nth degree and every possible appeal has been filed on his behalf and been exhausted. He has been afforded every single right that you and I have under our admired Constitution. (As a side note, this article can also serve to boost my opinion on my previously published immigration article. So, I won’t touch too much on that).
He was living in the States since he was 2 years old and failed to divulge his citizenship upon arrest. As I have said before, the solution to the ills of our society will begin when we accept accountability. I assure you the rest will fall into place. He wanted the fruits of the United States; he has to face the penalties if he can’t live by the laws in place to protect us. President Obama and anyone else who feels this is an unjust sentence needs to back off and let our state handle its own affairs. I agree with the pundits and commentators who feel that Congress should be the one body allowed to bind us to any document or treaty. Especially by the United Nations. He came. He saw. He killed. He’s gone. There has to be repercussions or there can’t be order. And while this article could go on and on about the debate this country has when it comes to foreign CRIMINALS, this just serves as a lead in to what I have wanted to write about this week. Our country is, with ever increasing speed, headed toward a country that is as far from independent as the Founding Fathers had envisioned.
The online Merriam-Webster dictionary defines the word ‘independent’ as ‘not subject to the control by others’. It also has an entry that uses ‘not looking to others for one’s opinions or for guidance in conduct’.
If you take a look at those two definitions closely, I think they represent what Jefferson, Adams and Franklin were thinking when they presented the Declaration of Independence. We have to be free and independent from any outside source when it comes to the benefit and well being of our citizens. This isn’t about me being a Texan and wanting some sort of Wild West justice. This is about the decisions our government makes regarding this country and why they make them. I think those two definitions pretty much are saying the same thing. To look for others’ opinions to dictate a path is, by all intent and purposes, being controlled by others. We are no longer a true independent nation. An increasing trend is that our country and its leaders are more concerned with our reputation and the opinion of other countries than about the welfare of our own citizens.
One needs look no further than two nations we have become so closely intertwined. One is China. I want to revise that. The human rights suppressing, state controlled, communist China. I’ve written about our jobs going overseas and the impact it has on our economy. I also listed our government as a major chief instigator in this issue. But, if you take a closer look at the bigger picture and consider the grand scope all of things, one could surmise there’s may be an underlying reason why our government isn’t in a big rush to keep our jobs in this country. Debt. Good old fashion fear is a reason I cite. China owns almost 10% of our total debt. In addition to the $65million we continue to give them in aid each year, they rake in the massive profits that we, as Americans, continue to pump into their economy. It would be more, I presume, if it not be for the U.N. sanctions stemming from their peaceful handling of the Tiananmen Square pro-democracy students in June of 1989. To be fair, the U.S. isn’t alone in this. China rakes in billions of aid each year from the IMF and other places and there are countries that limit their contact with Taiwan. China is bulling their way to the top. Watch it.
The Obama administration (and prior ones, as well…this problem has been gaining steam for some time) has allowed China and its leaders to come here and flaunt their increasing influence over our decision making process. To put it into perspective. While China continues to put its hand out like a needy, underdeveloped nation, they rank second, behind the U.S, in the world with the most billionaires. China’s economy is the fastest growing. And the U.S. will do whatever it takes for their Don to be happy and not place us in the pickle it can on a whim.
Another country influencing us is Mexico. Being our neighbor to the south, Mexico has reaped the benefits of our bountiful economy for quite some time. On both sides of the border. There are over one million Americans living and working in Mexico. The U.S. is Mexico’s largest trading partner and is America’s third. Who do they follow?? I was surprised, and not sure why, but Canada is our largest. But the second?? You guessed it, The People’s Republic of China. And with the massive immigration debate that will never end, the U.S. and the Obama administration find themselves being forced (although self imposed) to make decisions based on winks and nods and not in the best interests of our citizens. They have let Mexico’s President come into our country and tell our states that their laws are not right. That illegal immigration is a right of the Mexican people. Obama finds it easy, as well, to make jokes about the issue right there at the border. Other than trade, the reason is vividly clear: Votes. Again, as written, Latinos are making up an ever increasing voting demographic. Can you imagine the dent the President and the Democratic Party take if they take a stand on the side of the States and their own law abiding citizens? I venture to guess.
With the completion of another July 4th holiday, I took a moment to think if our society really embraces what it is we’re celebrating. We fought for the freedom to make our own decisions. And we have to face the consequences and the benefits of how we run our country. I even get the feeling we don’t recognize the day for what it is. It’s Independence Day. I can’t count the times over the years that I’ve heard the same people whine about the freedoms we have only to gripe louder when made to work on this holiday. I say lose the term “The 4th”. It forces the meaning to be relegated to a date on the calendar. We cannot ignore what it was the Founding Fathers were doing in forging out great country. When in doubt, we have to stand alone. Independent. Call July 4th for what it is. Independence Day.
In closing, it’s time to take a look at those leading us into the future. We continue to benefit those who infringe on the Creator’s gift upon us; Inalienable Rights. The presidential race is getting ready to heat up, we have issues in Congress that are festering up to the point of drastic laceration and we can’t find a formidable solution on immigration or our march towards insolvency. Look at our independence as you would your own house. How many people would you allow to influence the decisions you make involving you and your family? Especially if they weren’t in their best interests and well-being.

Until next time…..

P.S. One last thing for those in D.C. and the cheap seats, Don’t Mess with Texas.

On a list of hot button and polarizing topics, there aren’t many that can top our nation’s problem with illegal immigration. The mere mention of any type of immigration reform can excite the masses in an instant. It’s baffling to this humble observer how political our nation’s finances, way of life and security has become. No matter the way you decide to dice it, illegal immigration is a bigger problem that the Left is willing to cede to the opposition or public. Maybe not so much cede as to admit to the increasing impact it’s having on our nation. So, for a moment and if you have them, put aside that it’s instantly a race or any other derogatory issue that’s typically thrown into an argument to quiet any reason from becoming audible. There are real problems facing our country. And the walls are appearing to close in faster than we can figure out any semblance of a solution.
I really can’t see that President Obama and his administration have made one valid effort to curb the tide of illegal immigration at all. The words have been there. But not the actions. How can you sue a state for enforcing your rule and then reward a sanctuary city who doesn’t? Seriously? How does this remotely pass the smell test? I think what gets lost is what’s said by politicians and what’s not said. As a whole, I think America is okay with immigration. What they don’t like and are adamant about drastically changing is ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION. It’s strange how when you put the stress on the right word, you feel different. The operative word is and always should be illegal.
To just glance at the financial impact illegal immigration has on our country, you’d see that it’s overwhelming once placed into context . According to a July 2010 report by FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) http://www.fairus.org/site/DocServer/USCostStudy_2010.pdf?docID=4921, illegal immigration costs America and, ultimately, the American taxpayer $113 billion. What a staggering amount. Most of that is placed upon the local and state governments to foot. Not an in depth analysis but some quick stats that deserve to be mentioned. On the federal level, $2.1 billion is spent on education, $4.6 billion on welfare benefits and almost $6 million on medical. But the biggest total of federal expenditures for illegal immigration is law enforcement at $8.7 billion. And yet, nothing has deterred the influx of illegals into the United States.
In a time of budget cuts and near austerity measures, the topic of education seems to be on most people’s mind. While the federal government is responsible for just over the $2 million, the states pour out over $50 million. With California, New York and Texas accounting for almost half ($19million). Really? The burden of the states seems insurmountable simply because the government refuses to follow, enforce and ALLOW the states to enforce the law of the land.
To understand the burden of the problem, here are the figures of how much the cost of illegal immigration has on state budgets and increasing deficits. New Jersey has a projected budget deficit of $10 million with Texas having one around $13.5 million. The estimated cost for the education due to lack of enforcement is $2.2 million and $5.1 million, respectively. That’s over a third of Texas’ red ink. But the clear winner of the cost is California. With that state headed for inevitable financial collapse, $9.2 million of their $28 million deficit goes to the education of non- residents.
These are absurd figures, to say the least. The American taxpayer continues to finance a policy that has a bark worse than its bite. To offer full disclosure and add fuel to the liberal fire, American citizens BORN to illegal immigrants account for about 65% of the 4.7 million students factored into the report. But to include these children is fair. Due to the fact that, if there was better enforcement , that number would, theoretically, be considerably lower. At a time when education is more important than ever, the President and Washington’s lawmakers have a duty to put our children’s future first, as well as ours.
On almost the opposite end of that spectrum, the cost of law enforcement (or lack thereof) is the largest chunk our government shells out every year for illegal immigration. At $8.7 million, the burden of the taxpayers is 27% of the total monies paid out for this problem. Once you factor in the state and local responsibility, the amount skyrockets to an estimated $194 billion. To gauge how much just $1 billion can be, let’s say that you were given said $1 billion dollars on your eighteenth birthday. The only stipulation being that you place it in a non-interest bearing account or in an oversized walk-in closet. You could spend almost $44,000 a day, EVERY day, and never run out of money. Even if you lived to be 80 years old. More than half a billion dollars are spent on a problem that, I feel, is not as complicated to solve as it may seem.
Again, enforcement by the federal government is as close to non-existent as you can get. Allowing the states to see results from their efforts is the key. Yet due to political and liberal reasons, their hands are tied. Regardless of the money spend to curb our problem, illegal immigrants are consistently detained, deported or even released, BACK INTO OUR COMMUNITIES, only to return back to the jails they so easily left. Of course, the most famous is the debate in Arizona. Since the bill was passed in the State Legislature and signed into law by the governor, there have been more than a handful of states that have either passed a similar bill or have one on the table. Why can’t the President and His Affable Deputy Holder heed what has become a common solution among the states of the Union.
Wanting immigration reform is not about excluding. To me, it’s actually about inclusion. The including of the American people. ALL of the American citizens. I understand the argument that we’re a country of immigrants. Yada Yada. I buy it. But there is a legal and right way to go about including the immigrants that want to enjoy our freedom and republic. We are still the greatest country in the history of the world. Our way of life is unprecedented in the annals of man. And to be able to maintain our order and democracy, we have to have a solid and decidedly certain course of action to make this happen. The solution? Completely close the border and bottleneck the entries to ensure what is right and just happens. Period.
If this article gets around and some bleeding heart dissenters trickle in (which is exactly what I want), I will get an earful about how it’s discriminatory, fear mongering and, generally, American hating tenets of the conservative answer. But, in all the reasons I can think of, I believe that there is really only one that needs acknowledging.
This one point should drive home the point of my whole solution. I’m reminded of a program I watched on PBS’ Frontline about the history of AIDS. Dr. Don Francis was one of the brilliant doctors who discovered the deadly virus. He was lobbying for more funds for research and treatment from the CDC in January of 1983. They refused to acknowledge the growing problem and the rapid acceleration of the epidemic. One of the arguments against a blood test? Yep. Too discriminatory and panic inducing. His story goes that he finally stood up , pounded his fist on the table and demanded to know how many lives had to be lost before they would listen and move toward solution. So here’s my fist pounding on that table. How many American lives have to be sacrificed before the Obama Administration and the Liberal minions will see that we have to put Americans and their safety first. Period. Hands down. Aside from the financial weight placed upon the Americans, the lives that have been the collateral damage of this conflict should be as minimal as possible. Is that really a whole lot to ask? There is no dollar amount that can or should be placed on the death of a loved one. Regardless of whose feeling get hurt or feathers get ruffled. There is absolutely no reason that we, as a nation, should be okay with ONE SINGLE CITIZEN being slaughtered or killed simply because of what Lady Liberty says on her pedestal just south of where the World Trade Centers once stood in New York Harbor. (give me tired, your weak…)
Just in the past year or so, the news has been peppered with sad stories of innocent lives being thrown on the slab. All for the sake of harmony with the Mexican government. From the numerous border guards, the nun who was run over by a twice deported illegal immigrant to the husband whose wife this past October swore he was killed by Mexican criminals at Falcon Lake along the Texas/Mexico border. Only to be scrutinized as if she was the criminal. How long was it before the government, ON BOTH SIDES, divulged that, in fact, he was? Wasn’t it the current Mexican President Felipe Calderon that called the Arizona law “troublesome’? All the while, his government levies fines and forces deportation for its immigration problems. He seems to be invoking Castro and the Muriel Boat Lift to Miami in the early ‘80’s. Castro was more than happy to unload his criminals. Obama won’t even go along with Calderon on a tit for tat even basis. There have even been reports that al Qaeda is using the U.S.’s lax border security to get in the country to continue their Fatwa. FBI Director Robert Mueller testified that this trend is becoming an increasing trouble spot. The borders have to be closed or, at least, left only slightly ajar.
While closing the borders and administering tighter entrance controls will only partly solve the fiscal issue, the crime that comes along with that should be the main reason for more diligent enforcement. I’ve read the argument that there is no more crime with illegals that there is with the native-born and legal immigrant population. You know what?? I will let them have that point even though I disagree. (27% of all federal inmates are illegal immigrants.) If you could reduce that number, why wouldn’t you? Why does making the process better and more controlled a bad thing? If you’re legal, why wouldn’t you want to prove it? One hundred pennies will continue to make a dollar. You have to start somewhere. I will tell you why I think. Politics. Re-election. Maintaining the current administration’s forge towards a more socialist state. You have to take notice, pay attention to what is happening and correlate the timing. Just like the uncanny coincidence of the killing of Osama bin Laden and this morning’s capture of the leading mob figure on the FBI’s Most Wanted List, Whitey Bulger, the immigration debate and the population it’s most connected is as essential as anything at his re-election.
Hispanics are one of the fastest growing demographic groups here in the United States. They represent more and more of the voting population in key areas during an election cycle. Just like wooing the life draining unions, Democrats and Obama are counting on this particular percentage to assist in carrying them back to complete prominence. Like many politicians and world leaders before him, Obama is a great orator. He knows the hot button to push and the right issues to highlight to get the crowd in a frenzy. He has a mission.
I’m not sure if the country will ever control its borders adequately or successfully. But closing the border until a more secure and less flawed system is in place is the answer for now. We have to put us first. Regardless. Like the cliché’ goes, we have to love, care and believe in ourselves before we can embrace others.
Until next time…..

I had been trying to narrow down a topic for this week’s post and had narrowed it down to a few. One of the ones I had been leaning towards was a thought I had about what I think I want in a leader. Whether it be in management, politic, sports idols or whatever it is that requires someone to step up and be that beacon of guidance we all look for from time to time. But also, what it is that we do when someone we have entrusted with so much simply shows what he is: human. So yesterday’s revelation by New York Congressman Anthony Weiner is the reason I’ve decided on today’s post. While this may startle both side of the fence when it comes to those that tend to side with me and them that don’t, I feel that those rushing to judge the congressman and call for his outright resignation should take a moment and breath.
There is not a whole lot that I particularly like or enjoy about when it comes to Congressman Weiner. On the list of people I want to see in charge, he stenciled closer to the bottom than the top. So for all those that may think this is a dramatic shift in what I feel is right and good for our country, just wait a split second. That’s not what this is about. He annoys me to no end. Zero doubt about it. This is about how we view our leaders…..in my opinion. Weiner was wrong. Cut and dried. No way around it. He’s evoked the whole double standard debate that rages every time a politician gets caught with his hand in the cookie jar. And when he emulated the ever moral Billy Clinton, he only added to his problems. (Think index finger extended, making things clear routine) Though it was Mark Twain who wrote, “It is better to keep your mouth shut and appear stupid than to open it and remove all doubt”, it’s been my uncle who seems to remind me of that, more often than not, after a lively debate between to the two us. And that’s 100% what A to the T to the H to the ONY should have done after the news of his sexting and lewd photos surfaced. But, he didn’t and as he tried to scramble for cover, he only dug his hole even deeper….but not his grave. And he should refrain from resigning.

Weiner has been representing the 9th New York Congressional District since 1999. And while he has never been remotely approached by a Republican challenger (In 2006, he ran unopposed), he apparently has the backing of his constituents. I don’t agree with his policies or his staunch Democratic agenda. But, I respect the fact that he does not back down. He believes in what he believes in and rarely waivers. He is not afraid to fight for what he wants. I am an avid Fox News Channel watcher and I have seen him many, many times on taking barbs and jabs from everyone in the debate. He has every right, every single time to turn town their requests that he join a debate. He chooses not to. He’s loud, brash, obnoxious and a pit bull all at the same time. You have to have all viewpoints represented. So, like or despise him, that’s integrity. From a professional standpoint. I do tend to believe in the Republican way of thinking. At the same time, I don’t believe in a lack of checks and balances. I’ll admit a while after Bush first took office and there was a Republican Congress as well as a Conservative Court, I was uneasy. I don’t believe in absolute power. Absolute power corrupts…absolutely.
That being said, Weiner and his backers should take this as an opportunity. I think the bigger question is not when will he finally resign but how will he emerge from this. He can take this incident and the regret that he feels and harness it into an even stronger front for his policies and agenda. This is not condoning anything he’s done. But in a society full of options and temptations, who are we to judge?? The proof will be in how he forges forward tomorrow. I applaud him for not stepping down. Our country needs leaders that will not go with the grain and he is incessant on being the squeaky wheel. He represents the district in New York to which I have very close ties. And, I will tell you, it is very much a working class area. I have seen firsthand the hard work that goes into living in that area. They need an outspoken politician like Weiner. I just hope he is, in the end, who he says he is. I wish him luck.
Which brings me to the real meat of what I want to say. None of us are perfect. None. And if you say you are, you’re only lying to yourself. And when it comes to leaders, we should not cast stones. They are people just like us. Mistakes are inevitable. To me, it is how you approach everything after that blunder. And when it comes to someone to lead me into whatever, I want to know that he’s made mistakes. I need to be reassured that he has experience in defeat and regret. Not to justify mine but to see how they handle themselves after that miscue. One need look no further than football for what I’m trying to say. Brett Favre was one of the greatest quarterbacks that have played the game. Honest. He holds the record for most touchdowns in a career: 497. On the flip side, he also holds the record for most interceptions in a career: 317. To put that into perspective, Peyton Manning is third in TD passes lifetime with 366. If you didn’t know anything about football except that interceptions were bad, you pick Neil O’Donnell (second lifetime in lowest interception percentage) over Brett Favre. (Ask any Steeler fan how much they enjoyed his time at Three Rivers.) But, in truth, you’d pick Favre. He failed…a lot. But, as you can see, he trotted back out onto the field after that turnover with a renewed sense of resolve to make up for that mistake. He’s a proven winner. That’s who I want to see in my corner.
Infidelity, corruption, they’re not good. In fact, they’re appalling. But, they happen. Those things aren’t isolated to the Democratic side of the aisle, either. And I don’t want my congressman or president chasing every intern that smiles and laughs at their jokes. But, if it does happen, we have to realize that if we continue to hold those to a standard we ourselves may have a tough time with that we may pass on a great leader once the dust clears. We have to see how they hold themselves and walk amongst those screaming for their demise once they wake the next day. See if they can rise above the lack of sane judgment that has befallen them. Surge forward with a new sense of purpose. Throughout the ages, we’ve endured scandals beyond our belief. We cannot be that naïve. There’s no denying it. But it doesn’t change the fact the majority of those in power will continue to strive for what’s best for those they represent. If we want our leaders to be citizens among citizens, then we have to offer forgiveness and a chance at redemption. Anthony Weiner was, by anyone’s account, wrong. There’s no other way to dice it. And I wouldn’t lose a lick of sleep if he doesn’t get re-elected next time around. But for his policy making. For the hard working citizens that believe in him, he deserves a second chance. Here’s to him making the most of it….

Until next time…….

I’ve been reading about this Congressional Election in New York’s 26th District. It’s being lauded as a turning of the tide. How things are changing in America!! The Republicans have lied enough!! Seriously? Do politicians really think that we, as common, everyday Americans, are really that ignorant to the rhetoric on BOTH sides of the aisle? An article, in the Huffington Post by New York Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney, seems to think that, with this one race in the most heavily Republican district in New York, which the American voters, as a whole, have awoken from the November drunk. Dazed and confused for the past 6 months, there is finally a hope for the replenishing of sanity in this great country of ours. (Please add a condescending, sarcastic tone, if you haven’t already to this) She says that with this one election that we have seen the light and are no longer buying into the Republican way of doing things. Wow.
I just don’t get how transparent politicians truly are. There was a massive swing last November when the House changed hands in favor of the Republicans. How do the Democrats explain that one?? You had historically Democratic seats replaced with brand new politicians in Virginia. In Cincinnati, you had a one term Democratic congressman replaced by the former 7-term Republican that he REPLACED. This election is absolutely no different that the elections of November 2010. “It’s the truth, coming home to roost”, she says. What exactly does that mean?? It’s like now, 50 years after his death, everyone wants to be Malcolm X. Every time there’s a change, on either side of the political spectrum, the other side thinks that America has finally gotten it right. That being said, this is what I heard when I read the article:
“Dear America, while I appreciate your dedication to seeing that America survives the next 200 years and our Republic remains intact, I see that sometimes we don’t always make the right choice. It seems in November you mistakenly voted on emotion and your inability to distinguish scare tactics from fact. It’s kind of like all of you misguided new Republican voting citizens went grocery shopping when you were hungry. And we all know how unnecessary our choices are in that scenario. But, it’s okay. That’s the beauty of Democracy in Action. We all have slipups. I’m just glad you returned from the Dark Side. I know it’s hard to make those decisions on your own. That’s why your government is willing to gently “urge” in the right direction. Again, thank you for your renewed support…….And don’t mind that figure behind the curtain.”
The reality is that until we all make a concerted effort to be better informed, the government officials will continue to give us the illusion that we’re capable, decision making adults but, in actuality, treating us like incapacitated children. They do not trust us to vote the right way. There has never been a side admit that they have let the American people down and a change in a different direction was needed.
This is a problem with both sides. No one wants to admit the real truth here: NEITHER SIDE HAS THE ANSWER. No one. Ms. Maloney says that the election was about Social Security and Medicare. That’s a fair assessment. Retirement scares a lot of people. And it’s one of those hot button topics. But, she stresses that people 55 years and younger today would pay $6400 a year under the Ryan Plan. But, it’s only an analysis. Not fact. There’s also an analysis that if Social Security continues to be ran the ways it’s currently being handled, it’ll been completely insolvent by 20 so and so. That problem’s been proliferated by BOTH sides. (And of course, to ensure she gets livens the hostility on her side, she throws in the ‘big tax breaks for oil’ bumper sticker in there for good measure. Now…exactly what does THAT have to do with our need for a better Medicare solution??? Oh, that’s right…I keep forgetting. Tax those greedy RICH oil companies until we can rein in our unwillingness to be fiscally responsible. Got it. See my last post for more on the oil tax breaks) No one really knows what’s going happen, when it’s going to happen or HOW it’s going to happen. It’s all speculation. And for a politician to blame scare tactics on party or the other is purely a scare tactic in, and of, itself. The whole political spectrum and policy is based on a poll here or a ‘non-partisan’ panel there. They have to use scare tactics on both sides or they’ll never get elected.
The truth here is that there’s a whole lot broke and not a swinging person IN CHARGE that knows what to do. There hasn’t been a successful policy implemented to help the economy since this whole mess started. That being said, I would think that our “Democracy” would welcome the fact that one party isn’t in control of two of the three branches of government. You can’t have one party with free reign for their agenda. Are you kidding me?? In the end, this one election does not, in any way, represent which way America’s thinking is headed or has came back to. It just goes along with what America is about: Sometimes change is needed…..even if it is to shock us back to life.

Until next time……

So…I was asked to look into what I feel may have caused a good number of our industries to outsource their jobs overseas. I spent the last day or so reading and going through some statistics. I’ve come up with a couple of reasons and opinions that I feel shed some light in MY eyes as to why this trend has been inching up over the years to the point of rocketing out of control. The questions that seems to coincide with “Why?” are “Who’s to blame?” or “Are we not good enough?”
I think, in the end, we have to look at our country and ourselves, as citizens, at what our home has become. As I have preached to anyone that will listen, accountability is the key to success. Hands down. No matter what you do. Or what it is you want to do. It has to be the foundation to which you base your work ethic. Accountability builds integrity. Integrity gives you power. And, this will start a chain reaction of success beyond belief. I think somewhere along the line there has been enough people that, to me, stopped realizing or refusing to acknowledge how critical integrity plays in the workplace. Like I said we all have to shoulder some of the blame. Whether it’s us, as workers, or our government. So, until we realize that our country, as a whole, has placed us in this situation where our very way of life is threatened.
The part the business sector has played in this will be scrutinized quite a bit. While there are not a lot of posted comments, I have talked to some people who disagree with me on many facets of my opinions. But, the one they seem to gravitate to is the fact that I give the companies and those in charge a fair shake when looking at issues. And I DO find myself siding with them more than not. I’ll buy that. But, I think we don’t give corporations an objective look, simply because they make a seemingly ungodly amount of money. But I will explain more on this later in the post.
Taking a look at the government, you’ll find that there’s a lot they refuse to divulge to the unsuspecting public. We really do put a lot of trust in Washington for some things we shouldn’t and question other issues we should but don’t. (Did I say that right??) Congress and the White House have had their crosshairs on businesses and corporations for quite some time. But are they really as villainous as they are made out to be?? Let’s take those evil greedy oil companies, for instance. (Picture Tommy Boy saying naughty and pointing) Who seem to have assigned seats once a month, in Congress, being made to answer for free enterprise. How can they be gouging out hard working Americans while they rake in record profits!!! Damn you Big Oil!! A closer look reveals that when it comes to taxes being paid, one of the giants, Exxon Mobil as well as all of them, has more than paid its share. To the tune of the whopping effective income tax rate of 42%. So, while they’re considered hiding and dodging from their rightful tax burden, the profit margin for oil and gas industry sits at only 6%. This places them #112 amongst the other major industries. To put it in a different way, they paid over $8 billion on revenue of almost $19 billion….in just the first quarter of this year. Oh man…I cannot wait until I have the opportunity to start my own business, create a relatively substantial amount of jobs, allow more money to pour back into the economy, have the satisfaction and feeling of accomplishment only to realize I have to give almost half of what I make to a government who’s real problem is the fact that they can’t do the simplest of math: balancing its checkbook. You know. The whole concept of keeping what’s going out of your piggy bank less than what you’re putting in there. Novel really. With all the taxes placed on goods exiting the country as opposed to the lack of taxes levied on those entering the country from abroad, it is becoming increasingly impossible for companies to operate profitably here in our United States. Let me add to that. Impossible to operate with an acceptable amount of return. You have to allow businesses to prosper. Why?? Because that’s how the free enterprise market works. The pinheads in D.C. continue to look to the richest companies and individuals to carry the burden due to its seemingly insurmountable lack of fiscal responsibility. As I’ve said before, the companies have the most to lose. You’re kidding yourself if you feel otherwise. Regardless of profits made or income lost. They aren’t responsible for just one mortgage, two cars, three kids and a loving spouse. They’re responsible for all those things TIMES THE NUMBER OF EMPLOYEES. And their stockholders. They bear the greatest risk and therefore have a right to have the better return. It all goes back to that pesky little phrase…return on investment. You know the same thing you want with your retirement. Our government has to make this country attractive to businesses if they want our jobs to stay put. Or they have every right to bolt. Period.

When it comes to what the companies get, as far as workers here in the U.S., I’m sure they are just out to pay the lowest wage for the most work. And you know what? That’s a fair thing to say. They are. In your household, how do you save money for a rainy day? You cut back on operating costs. Such as cable, entertainment, eating out, paid lawn care, etc. Especially, if you’re not receiving a fair service for your money. That’s fair enough, right? Without pigeonholing the vast majority of American workers, there are enough people out there that feel once they get a job, they’ve been given their birthright. And act accordingly. They just want to sit there and ride this whole money train until retirement. This is where the aforementioned accountability comes in play for us, as individuals. That percent of people, that live and prosper under our Nanny State, refuse to do anything more than the bare minimum and demand the maximum money. Number one, that’s not right. Number two, if you want businesses to pay their weight you have to pull yours. The irony here is that the Left continue to want to keep that inheritance tax on money that’s already been taxed and what they deem wasn’t properly earned by the heir in the first place. Awesome. (Another reason I can’t wait to make enough money where my kids will be okay.) Isn’t that what the lazy and bitter say?? My father worked and his father worked through the years for what we have and we deserve to keep what they fought for!! Really??? Gimme. Gimme. Gimme. Mine. Mine. Mine. All you’ve done is replace the word money with jobs. In reality, there’s zero difference in principle. And the Democrats are the “working class party”. Right? So, what we’ve done is back ourselves in a corner. With all the politically correctness out there and the lack of accountability, we are made to enable the small percentage of those who make us hard working people look bad to continue to bring our image down to keep doing what they’re doing. If you own a business and you’re not getting a return on the investment you’ve placed on the individual worker, you have that right to put your money somewhere else. Done. You do not owe them anything. Zilch. Is that right? Who really knows. But, it’s the cold hard truth. Jobs are an agreement that you agree to upon date of employment. You have to keep up your end of that bargain or you should have to face the consequences. I am not agreeing with America losing their jobs. Or wanting that to happen. I am merely stating what I think is fact. I have a friend that is gently urged to ensure that India gets a certain percentage of work he doles out. He’s mad and rightfully so. But, he’s a hard worker. He takes pride and believes in his ability. He just wants to know why? And my answer to that is that it’s in part that there is enough dead weight around that the head honchos want to see what an investment in India can produce. What they can get in return for an investment in someone that lives on a fraction of what we do. Until we hold each and every worker around us responsible for his or her actions, ability and integrity, the silent majority will watch their way of life squander away to a country where the workers are new to stable and good work. And, definitely better wages. Relative to the region, of course. (So, simmer down) I have someone close to me that told me once why he went into the profession that he did. He worked for himself. He told me that he had a union job and was young when he hired on. There were four or so of them, including him, around the work site. While he was working and the elders were sitting watching, he got annoyed. And rightfully so. It was at that point he decided to quit. He was damned if he was going to watch those around him feel they didn’t have to work and had the yoke put on him while they made more money than him. Today, he’s one of the most successful people I know. The next time you see that person saying he’s not doing anymore than he has to and screw the company, remind him there’s a billion people in China and India that will. Just don’t be threatening.

Before closing I want to touch on one last thing. So those who want to say that I just skimmed over and ignored it can’t say that I did. The fact of the matter is that the cost of labor is decisively lower than that of the United States. You really can’t deny that. It’s 100% correct. But let’s put that into perspective. The average income in the U.S. is somewhere in the range of $32k. To break it down further, we’ll take manufacturing jobs into the fold. Those jobs average around $36k-$41k. That’s roughly an increase of around 16%-ish above the average. In China, the average income is less than $200 a month. But, the manufacturing jobs are paying in the area of $300 a month. That’s a better than 50% raise over the average. So, while the numbers seem pitiful compared to what they pay us. They are doing, in China, what I thought we had been fighting for for their population since the Communists took over. To give them more dignity and self worth. A bigger say in their way and quality of life. The companies are doing just that. I read where workers are buying things they never dreamed of. Houses, cars. China is an emerging market. You can keep your head in the sand and wait for the Calvary that will never come or do what we need to have done from the beginning: Help Yourself. You cannot vilify the companies for moving their investments elsewhere where they see an acceptable rate of return. They’re not in the business to tread water. They’re here to make money. Which is the same reason we choose to get to work on time and be productive. It’s cliché’ but, in the end…it’s really all about the Benjamins. They don’t owe us what a lot good number of people believes that they do.
Contrary to what your opinion of this is, I want to make one thing clear. I do not think that moving jobs overseas is a good thing for our country. And I hope and pray we can reverse the trend. But we are the masters of our destiny. I believe that the core of the American workers are committed, diligent and deserve to profit, personally, from the fruits of their labors. I am merely giving my take on what the companies see about their situation through their eyes. And until we can pull up those less than motivated people to the level to which we know we all can perform, and most of us do perform, this is an employer’s market. Cut and dried. Like it or not, they’re in command until we make ourselves what we did years ago when America was its most profitable and prosperous, they’ll stay there: Indispensible.

Until next time…..

Okay…So, I’m perusing my most favorite site today (the ever unbiased Huffington Post..<insert sarcastic grin here>) and happened across an article written by the equally “ever unbiased” Michael Moore titled, “Some Final Thoughts on the Death of Osama bin Laden”. Being that there’s never been a more unpatriotic individual claiming to be a defender of The Constitution, I couldn’t wait to dive head first into what I was sure was an eye opening and quality reading experience. And while I’ll eventually get to my endearing thoughts of the Oscar-winning Filmmaker (I don’t have an issue giving credit where credit is due), I wanted to first just touch base and give my two cents on the “facts” given in the article.
The article begins with a quote he made last week about the Nazis getting a trial (as opposed to bin Laden just being cut down…unarmed, of course) and, being we’re Americans, we act different. He sets the tone of the article as though he stands on the pillar of morality and ethics amidst this declining, sad democracy we now live in. And to my surprise, he actually holds President Obama accountable for his actions on this one. Something both the President as well as the Left has shown has the seemingly uncanny ability to defer it to that Evil W. Albeit, in ESTEEM for the positive outcome due to his decisive actions against the thorn in the side of his predecessor. He recalls his somber stroll down to Ground Zero that evening for “closure” only to find “frat boy-style parties” going on. He tries to invoke both Thomas Jefferson and Jesus Christ himself to ask, “What would they do?” in that situation. No doubt with the frat boy reference and his historical disdain for “trust fund babies”, that it was just a horde of rich, well educated paid for by ill gotten gains made by there ever conniving father white guys that just used the news of Osama’s death to celebrate and drink into the wee hours. Simply because they’re too rich to have to work on Monday, right?
He goes on to opine (that’s for you Mr. O’Reilly, I mean if you checked your email and decided to check my blog out, of course) that America is a vastly different place than it was during WWII and all the way to the aftermath of the Oklahoma City Bombings. The facts that there were no celebrations until after the wars were ended or justice served. And that the families in OKC were simply somber and quiet. He just couldn’t believe that the excitement exuded from the partiers in the streets on the hallowed ground of the World Trade Centers was happening here in The Great United States of America.
To sum it up and not give complete credence to the article, he is, basically, saying that we should have taken him alive and had him stand trial. In addition, this should signal the end on ‘The War on Terrorism” and bring our troops home. You should take a look at the article on the Huffington Post and you’ll read where he states his “final thoughts”.
Here’s the link to the post: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michael-moore/some-final-thoughts-on-th_1_b_861071.html
In retort, I would like to address and give my thoughts on some of the “facts” Mr. Moore incorporated into his piece.
-Moore pointed that it took Obama (SMART) only two years what Bush (STUPID) couldn’t do in seven. Let’s not be too hasty on this one. The fact is that while bin Laden was on our radar as early as the early ‘90’s and, for sure, in 1996. But after the Embassy Bombings in 1998, where we had proof he was behind them, he was placed on the FBI’s Most Wanted List. That gave the Honorable Billy Boy almost three years to get things done. We can point the finger all the way back to the late 70’s and ‘80s when we actually thought that by training and aiding a reckless bunch of nomads that that would give us get-out-of-jail-free at a later date. We all see how that turned out. As previously written on my site, I still think this was strictly a political move on the eve of the election season rapidly approaching.
-He states that the reason we took the Nazis to trial at Nuremberg was not to punish them. But to have a written account of the atrocities inflicted upon a complete race of people. While I agree to a point with this, I do have issue with comparing bin Laden to Hitler. But not entirely. Both, in the end, want to annihilate an entire group of people based on religious beliefs. Hitler systematically murdered tens of thousands of Jews a day for years. With an intricate system of camps and gas chambers to point there was no effort in doing it. Bin Laden, on the other end, issues his Fatwa during the First Gulf War and begins to finance his War Against the Infidels. In no way am I lessening the senseless murder of thousands of Americans and others. Mr. Moore wants to pick and choose how we approach them in other ways. I understand his allusion to stereotyping all Muslims in our airports. But, wasn’t anyone known to be in the Nazi Party or considered a war profiteer under suspicion once the liberation of Europe was complete? That sounds exactly like profiling. He continues to infuse scare phrases to push his point across. He finishes by saying the trials were good because “the majority of the Nazis all hanged in the end.” Well, Mikey, only 23 Nazi War Criminals were after hanged after receiving the death penalty. A good number of those death sentences were reduced to life imprisonment. Well, unless you count the numberless Nazis that were tried in kangaroo courts or at the concentration camps where they got their due at moment of verdict. Oh…..but that’s not how you meant it, right?? You didn’t include those, did you??
-He writes that there’s no way that bin Laden ran all that stuff from the depths of caves. He says with all that money he was a crime boss and he just couldn’t live in a cave. He actually cites that he doesn’t know that exactly. He just used common sense. Again, something STUPID wasn’t capable of. His biggest fact that refers to his vast crime empire is the reality that “every murderer on 9/11 flew first class.” Ooooooh, wrong again, my friend. According to the manifestos, that‘s not entirely the truth. American Flight 11, with Mohammed Atta, had 3 in first class. The other two were in business. United Flight 175, 2 in first and 3 in business. American Flight 77 had 3 in first class with the remaining two in economy. Before Flight 93, I want to point out, as mentioned in an earlier post, that there’s a reason that non-military men should NOT assess military situations. I am not, in any way a military expert. But, in my opinion, the reason for the splits in the first 3 planes was for crowd control. With the majority of the passengers toward the aft of the plane, you have to be able to see the whole situation as it unfolds. With some up front and the others closer to the majority of the people, it allowed faster response in case their plans went awry. All three of those planes reached their destinations. Now…Flight 93. This must have been where Moore got his facts from. All the hijackers were in first class on this plane. All up front. No one assessing those in the back. Now, completely realizing that we know very little of the events and how they unfolded on Flight 93, I feel safe to assume they had to overtake the plane before anything else could happen. This alerted the rear of the plane that things were eschew. Where exactly did that plane land? Oh, that’s right…..A BIG FAT FIELD. This was not a money move on bin Laden’s part. This was a military maneuver. Remember, we trained the loon.

Along the line he mentions that bin Laden accomplished what he had set out to do. Among other things, he mentions that he wanted us to engage our military in Muslim lands so we could be wiped out financially and hated by those very same Muslims. While I don’t think that the wars in the Middle East are solely to blame for our financial crisis, I will agree that it sure didn’t help. But on the whole being hated by the Muslims because we entered militarily thingy; Ummmmm…yeah, Muslims have hated us for years. How about those mild skirmishes they nicknamed, The Crusades?? Doesn’t anyone remember those 444 sunlit days in Iran?? I mean, I think that that seed of hate blossomed some time ago.

In closing, he has some suggestions. He bunches them all together like a hidden congressional raise stuck in some education bill. Where if a particular senator doesn’t vote for it, he’s deemed an enemy of education. If you can follow that, you’ll understand that in a sentence of his recommendations on how to restore our good name, he lumps an all too common carol of the Elite Left in the middle of it: “Make the Rich Pay for This Mess”. There ya have it, my Fellow Americans. The cure for the end of all our woes. Just tax the rich and get us outta this mess. I love the smell of laziness in the morning. Refreshing really. He says the economy has “gone desperately Greek”. I couldn’t agree more with him on the Greek analogy…just not in the way he probably defines the reference.

With all that the article said and implied, I got a little annoyed to say the least. How can this “accomplished” man be so far off on his facts? I’m sure it’s all ‘perception’ on his part. (There’s that word again…I will explain at some point. Stay tuned) So, I took a few hours to look up our delightful savior to see what else he had to say out there. I will admit I have watched most of his movies. They are compelling and I can see where someone may be lured to side with his views.
But don’t rule out sanity just yet.
In his article he says over and over that the State continues to use fear to take away our freedoms and rights. This is the basis for a speech I came across from March of this year. It’s on YouTube and it’s titled “America is NOT Broke”. It’s about a 30 minute speech he gave in Wisconsin three weeks into the debacle with Governor Walker and The State Senators who fled (illegally) to Illinois to avoid a vote. Okay, I know what you’re thinking. He mentions in the bin Laden article that Bush…and his cronies on Wall Street, have bankrupted America to the tune of $1.2 trillion dollars. BUT…..two months ago he was doing his best Norma Rae impression and screaming about how America is bountiful with cash. That our most affluent should just rain it down upon the less trodden so we can all do our best Gene Kelly dance. Awesome. (He apparently thinks that most people have a memory like a goldfish). Furthermore, this speech is laced with trigger words and fear tactics that seems to want to invoke some sort of revolutionary situation. And just like the article I just read, it’s littered with falsehoods and catch phrases of where he sees America heading. The video is below:

If you don’t watch the video, I’ll touch on just a few examples of what I’m saying.
He says that 400 people in America own more wealth than half of America…..combined. He refers to them as “little Mubareks”. He goes on to place the crisis in Egypt with the “Rich” at least two more times before he runs out of breath and stops under the guise that he’s done. They’ve accomplished a financial coup d’état, he swears. And that we, as Americans, are forced to make the humiliatingly acknowledgement that we’ve surrendered our “precious democracy to the money elite”. Can you vilify capitalism any better?? Are the rich really to blame?? And then to compare them to a tyrannical dictator?? I mean, if you think Glenn Beck is a fear monger, you gotta get a load of this guy!!
Then he actually says some things that I agree with and I think he just gets caught up in his rhetoric. He doesn’t realize but he DEFENDS capitalism. Here are some of his points:
-Money doesn’t grow on trees. True
-Money makes things. Exactly.
-Money creates more jobs. Good point.
-And here’s my favorite: and jobs produce more revenue. Bravo Michael, Bravo. You’re growing
up right before our very eyes!!
-We all deserve our fair share. This is a little fuzzy. But, I’m gonna say it’s good…in MY context.
These are all tenets of those who want to limit government and taxes to pull us out of the “mess”. It takes money to make money. But, in reality, what he’s saying is that the rich should give it all to the government to enable the lazy to…CONTINUE BEING LAZY. As mentioned in a previous post, as well; The Government DOES NOT manufacture anything except debt…Nada. Unless you’re Hugo Chavez.
Moore tries to bond with Jefferson when he asked what he would do in light of bin Laden’s death. You know, he wants you to know how committed he is to bringing the nation back together as one. Touching, to say the least. Yet, it was Jefferson who said, “The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.” With that being said, what WOULD Thomas Jefferson do today if he saw the number of Americans with their hand out living in their government subsidized “LIFE”?? He might want to use his Founding Father quotes to a minimum from now on.
Michael Moore has benefitted as much as anyone in the free society he so vehemently abhors. It’s inane for him to think otherwise. He is an instigator that has time and time again refused to face his critics head on. And have a fair, sensible debate about his views. It’s ludicrous.
In closing, I want to say that this whole time I’ve been trying to find the right word to describe our beloved Michael Moore. And as much as I wanted to sound intellectual and respectful, in the end I couldn’t.
Michael…you’re just an idiot.

Until next time….

First and foremost, I am as jubilant and excited about the news that Usama bin Laden has been killed as the next patriotic American. No doubt the lives lost, the countless families shredded, national division caused and the money spent make this a satisfying, yet bittersweet, moment. But, if you have seen ‘Pulp Fiction’, you’ll understand the point I’m trying to make when I ask to remember what The Wolf said after the car was finished. I won’t repeat but it was curt and to the point. And though crude, it tells us what we need to hear going into this post-Usama era.
This is going to be an entirely speculative post. I’m not going to quote numbers or anything like that. This is a gut feeling I have that is based on my interpretation of history and those events that made those periods significant.
As mentioned before, the events in Egypt were only a snapshot of things to come. And things have become increasingly sour in the Middle East. Tensions are building; the oppressive governments have only gotten worse. With that, I just want to say that the U.S. has made their deals with The Devil in that regards. The reasons we don’t come out and ‘condemn’ like we’re apparently supposed to is because WE ARE the reason those people are in power. But, leaving that alone, I feel that with the news about bin Laden, this will act as a catalyst to the zealots that claim to be fighting in the name of Allah.
This will be a turning point and an even bigger boost to al-Qaeda than we have yet to see. And this is not some formula used to figure these people out. This is human nature. Regardless of our opinion of them, they are steadfast in their convictions that what they are doing is right. And when you believe as strongly as they do, sometimes you need something to rally those waning in their dedication to the cause. You need not look outside our borders to find examples of how certain events have catapulted movements or conflicts in the right direction.
The Battle of The Alamo in 1836 is often cited as the single most important event in Texas’ War for Independence. This relatively small mission in San Antonio was looked as an example of the ruthlessness of de Santa Anna. It caused hordes of those in Texas and those in the rest of the States to join in the fight. And we all know the rallying cry after that…”Remember The Alamo!!!”
In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to give up her seat in Montgomery, Alabama. This was not the first time this happened. But, it launched the Bus Boycotts of that year and the incident was looked upon then, as it is today, as a symbol of the struggle in The Civil Rights Movement.
Even the Nazis used the sixteen of them killed at the Beer hall Putsch to rally its citizens behind the Nazi Party during rallies. Inspiration does not know right from wrong. Its color blind, gender blind, nationality blind and more importantly, cause blind. Like beauty, it is in the eyes of the beholder. We cannot get complacent. These people don’t play.
I’m not an expert on history. I am just reminding that while we are basking in the glory of finding the world’s most wanted man, we need to realize that they did believe in his message. And let’s be honest. While the intelligence may have been just what we needed to find him, he’s been hiding for over ten years. Living a pretty good existence. This may just be a red herring they’re hoping we bite on. It’s not unfeasible that Usama bin Laden will be more powerful in martyrdom that he was alive. He preached that The Infidel must be eliminated, regardless of the cost. And with the world celebrating, even more the United States, it can only act as a spark for worse things to come. And those that follow will be more determined to prove that that message was not in vain. Al Qaeda has been described as only a loosely banded coalition of factions. This will act as the glue that brings those back together to regroup and emerge even stronger.

I hope and pray not.
Until next time…..

As far as the City of Houston goes, it’s more than ironic that on the 41st anniversary of, arguably, NASA’s greatest test of, and subsequent victory over, adversity, that the Nation and it’s omnipotent President has snubbed and disrespected a great city in an even greater state. (That would be the exploding of the oxygen tank on Apollo 13 on April 13, 1970 while on route to the Moon) Following the retirement of the shuttle program, the shuttles themselves will be dispersed to four cities for reasons that only The Good Lord can imagine. The reasons for the Smithsonian and Kennedy Space Center are no brainers. I will cede that without any argument. But, New York City and Los Angeles?? Seriously?? Really?? I’m not even going to dignify those choices with reasons as to why. But what I am going to do is to tell you why HOUSTON should have been a no brainer. At the end if you disagree, I SOOOOO want, NAY have, to hear your reasons.
So, the reasons given for the locations of the Shuttles, and even most of the artifacts located at the Johnson Space Center (including shuttle flight simulators, full fuselage trainers, full cockpit trainer) are that they will be placed where the greatest number of people can see them. I am still dumbfounded, let me rephrase, additionally dumbfounded (from my everyday haze of life) that they have disregarded the importance The City of Houston has meant to NASA’s Space Program. Houston IS Mission Control. Surely, they understand that the minute Kennedy Space Center was finished with the launch of EVERY SINGLE SHUTTLE MISSION, the safety and direction of the flight was passed to Johnson Space Center. IN HOUSTON. W O W…. It was a major training facility for all of NASA. Houston has constantly been snubbed at every twist and turn, regardless of the issue. I mean we don’t even get on national weather maps. (Check that out the next time you have GMA or Today on in the mornings) Even though we are the 4th largest city…..IN THE NATION.
In response to this, I’ve put together a few facts that the minds that be seem to have overlooked when deciding that Houston wasn’t worthy.
-Aside from New York City, Houston is home to more Fortune 500 companies than any other city. Good.
-It’s an international hub for banking, trade and commerce. Good.
-Major operations centers to 5 of the 6 “supermajor” energy companies. Ok..this may be an underlying reason. Therefore, I say Good….Uber-Left Wingers: BAD.
-In a traditionally Red State, Houston is the most diverse city in Texas. Bar None. Good.
-The Houston Museum District has an annual visitor count of 7 million. VERY GOOD.
-Houston has a higher Gross Domestic Product than 21 countries, let me stress this, 21 COUNTRIES in the world. Way Good.
-According to www.bayareahouston.com, NASA is the second highest employer of public sector jobs in Houston. With a total of 18,290+ program and operation jobs. AND they spend in excess of $1.5 billion dollars on contractor and civil servant salaries. Both sides would agree…Good.
-It has the largest concentration of medical and research facilities in the world at its world famous Texas Medical Center. I won’t even try and name the influx of foreigners who come to Houston for their medical care. Great.
-Rice University is ranked the 17th best college by U.S New and World Report. Not Bad.
-Houston stands as one of the few U.S cities that can boast a permanent, professional, resident company in all major performing arts disciplines. I think Good.
-Forbes has ranked Houston first, within the past few years, when it comes to Best Cities for College Graduates and Buying a Home. I’m still going with Good.
-For all you evil, Republican, money hungry, doesn’t care about the needy capitalists, Forbes also named Houston, IN 2010, the Best City for Shopping. Okay, I’m torn on this one….Okay, I’m not.
There you have it. Just a few reasons as to why Houston can more than sustain its presence in the tourist world. Aside from some great memories in a city about 850 miles east, I cannot say enough about Houston. You will not find a better place, dollar for dollar, to spend some time and money. Houston has shown over the years its knack for innovation and entrepreneurship. It has something for everyone. Regardless of what it is that makes you tick. Simply put, Houston in synonymous with NASA, Space, Moon Landings. For Pete’s sake, it’s the VERY FIRST WORD spoken from the moon. It was the first word Jim Lovell uttered when that oxygen tank exploded. We have been the central nervous system for The Shuttle Program from its inception. I just can’t wrap my head around this. I haven’t really been excessively critical of Obama, himself. I don’t think. But, the buck stops with him. Period. This was a political decision. (I mean New York and California are typically Red States, right??? Think November 2012) Nothing more. And I gotta say Barry…You Got it Wrong. Shame on You.
Until next time…..
